Jim Budd was appointed Chair of the School of Industrial Design at Georgia Tech in the Fall of 2010. He has over 20 years design experience in business and industry with a focus on product design for both consumer and business markets prior to commencing his teaching career. He has taught industrial design and interaction design for the past 25 years at schools in the US and Canada including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Georgia Tech, the Technical University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University Surrey, Carleton University and the Emily Carr University of Art & Design. He has helped foster new curriculum for a number of interdisciplinary design development and innovation courses that pool teams of students from a diverse range of disciplines to work collaboratively on both humanitarian and industry sponsored projects. His research and teaching interests focus on a human-centered approach to design with a specific interest in sensor-based interactive product design.
